Award-winning ‘Advertising & Commercial’ photograph

I am delighted to have been awarded a Highly Commended status for this photograph entered into The Societies of Photographers’ April competition. It was entered into the Advertising & Commercial category, for which I was the only photographer to receive an accolade.
In total there were 482 images entered into the competition throughout the month, with six Gold Awards and 43 Highly Commendeds given out in total.
About the image
This image was part of a commission by Eley Hawk, in which the brief was to capture their products in ultra detail for use in printed media adverts and for use online. Depicted in the photo is two Eley VIP Steel Pro Eco Wad cartridges loaded into a Blaser F3 Sporter belonging to Rob Speed, a combination designed for superior performance on clays, driven game and wildfowl.
The high contrast adds to the industrial, technical feel which I set out to achive, which is representative of the two fantastic products. The vignette pulls your focus into the products greatly, and anyone who shoots game and clays know the action of a Blaser F3 as shown here immediately. Using a macro lens and a relatively shallow depth of field I was able to get such crisp focus on the Eley brand name and allow the other details to gently blur out using bokeh to great effect.
There is ample spacing and dark tones surrounding the image make it perfect for adding text which will stand out with ease.
